Brown sugar is my favourite sugar. My French friends say that food tastes better because of butter, I say food tastes better because of brown sugar – within reason of course. I have fond memories of porridge for breakfast as a child with chunks of brown sugar melting on the hot surface spreading rivulets of caramel into the pools of cream. Yes, brown sugar is definitely my favourite sugar. This recipe has butter in it so would satisfy my French friends and me!
What you need:
100g brown sugar
200g wholemeal flour
1: Heat the oven to 180 degrees and line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
2: Mix the butter and sugar together using a fork and once it is well blended mix the flour in working it well with your hands.
3: Flatten the dough on a flat surface, sprinkled with flour, and using a cookie cutter cut out the biscuits, or just mould the dough into balls and squish them onto the tray. I used a cookie cutter that is 5cm in diameter. This made about 20 biscuits.
4: Bake for about 8 minutes if you would like them to be a little squishy and 10 minutes if you would like them to be crunchy.
